What is DataVault Tax Stamps?
DataVault Tax Stamps has been developed by Reconnaissance International, the leading provider of intelligence on security printing, authentication, and anti-counterfeiting technologies.
The platform provides a structured, searchable database of tax stamp and traceability programmes worldwide. It tracks which countries and excise authorities operate tax stamp schemes, the product types they cover, the technical and security feature specifications of the stamps in use, and the contractors who produce them.
The platform also includes estimated tobacco and alcohol tax stamp volumes per country, based on consumption data from Euromonitor. These estimates have been calculated both for countries that already have a tax stamp programme in place as well as those that don’t use them yet, in order to provide a complete picture of the global tax stamp market size.
The database is maintained by the Reconnaissance International editorial team and updated on an ongoing basis as new programmes are introduced, specifications change, or contracts are awarded.

Data Partner - International Tax Stamp Association
The International Tax Stamp Association (ITSA) is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2015, representing 28 members from 18 countries – all leading providers of tax stamp and traceability components, features, and systems.
ITSA is recognised by government regulators and tax issuing authorities at national and regional level as an authoritative voice for the tax stamp community. Its mission is to promote high professional standards through education, research and advocacy, and to develop and promote best practice in the industry. In 2018, ITSA contributed to the development of ISO 22382:2018, the international standard for excise tax stamps.
As a data partner, ITSA funds the consumption data underpinning the tax stamp volume estimates included in this platform. It also contributes tax stamp programme content, drawing on the expertise of its member companies: the contractors and technology providers who design, produce and manage tax stamp and traceability systems worldwide.
Database Structure
The diagram below illustrates how the data is organised, from geographic regions and countries down to individual stamp specifications with their security features, contractors and images. A single tax stamp programme can have multiple active stamp specifications — for example, a country may use different stamps for domestic, imported and keg beer under the same programme.
